Ram baseball team improves to 5-12

The Greene County baseball team picked up three wins last week. They defeated host Prairie City-Monroe 3-1 on Monday, June 21. Tuesday’s game with Manson-NW Webster was cancelled due to stormy weather. Wednesday the Rams pulled off an upset of HOIC leader West Marshall 8-4 and Perry was a 13-3 victim on Friday.

GC is 5-12 on the season and is 3-7 in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The Rams traveled to Dayton Monday where they battled Southeast Valley. and hosted Manson-Northwest Webster on Tuesday. Wednesday Greene County travels to Nevada Wednesday with a start time of 7:30 pm.

Rams 3 ~ PCM 1

The Rams scored single runs in the first, third, and sixth innings and held the Mustangs to one run in the sixth to win post their third victory of the season. 

Bryce Stalder was the winning pitcher. The junior dominated on the mound as he fanned 12 Mustangs, walked one, and scattered four hits. 

The offense tallied seven hits with Stalder stroking a single, double and triple, to go with two stolen bases, two runs scored, and an RBI. Kole Teeples hit two singles for two RBIs. Brayden Roberts and Justin Stream added base hits. 

Rams 8 ~ W Marshall 4

Greene County upset Heart of Iowa Conference leader West Marshall 8-4 in Jefferson for the Rams fourth victory, their second straight. Coming into the game, the Trojans had an 8-1 conference record with Roland-Story at 5-2.

Each team plated a run in the first inning. Greene County added three in the third and WM added a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the Rams lead 4-2. GC posted a four-run fourth inning to lead 8-2. The Trojans picked up two more runs in the sixth but the Rams held them scoreless in the final frame to win 8-4.

Joe Carey tossed the three-hitter with two walks and five hit batters. Only two of the runs scored by WM were earned. The Trojans have 16 home runs this season, but finished with just three hits against the Rams.

Peyton Kinsey walloped a home run, the first of his varsity career and the first for the Rams this season. Max Riley had a double and two singles. Stalder cracked a double and single while Jack Hansen rapped two base hits. Cameron Miller and Stream both doubled. Miller had two runs batted in and Stream, Stalder, Riley, and Kinsey drove in one run apiece.

Rams 13 ~ Perry 3

Greene County beat up on their old nemesis, Perry, on Friday. A 13-3 Ram victory kept the Bluejays winless in 18 outings. GC got right to work, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Perry plated a run in the fifth, but the Rams kept the pressure on with five in the seventh for a 13-3 final tally.

Kinsey was the winning pitcher throwing 5-1/3 innings. He allowed two unearned runs on no hits, but he walked five and hit one batter. Alex Roberts finished the game, yielding two hits and one earned run. He also walked one batter and hit another. The Rams committed four errors.

Teeples went 4/5 at the plate with four singles and four runs batted in. Blake Hammen added three singles and an RBI and Stalder singled, doubled and drove in a run. Carey, Riley and Hansen each singled. Riley had an RBI, as did Miller, who knocked in a run with a SAC fly.
